Calum Von Moger recently opened up about his battle with mental health.

Calum Von Moger has been open about his battle with mental health and journey to recovery. At the beginning of 2023, the Australian bodybuilder shared a video speaking to fans and making a return to social media. During a recent interview, Von Moger dove deeper into his recovery and plans moving forward.

In May 2022, it was reported that Calum Von Moger jumped through a second story window while under the influence of methamphetamine. He received many injuries, including lacerations from the glass and spinal damage from the fall. He was hospitalized, received spinal surgery, and was in a coma for many days.

Following the incident, Von Moger attended rehab and got the help he felt he needed during this time. Now, he wants to speak to others who are battling the same demons.

“Part of my purpose and my journey is to bring awareness and some attention to people who are struggling with mental health. I’ve been through it. Luckily, I’m out of the trenches.”

The process for Calum von Moger has been long as he earned his Pro Card at the 2020 NPC Universe but has not competed in a show recently. He is a three-time Mr. Universe winner but has not stepped on stage as an IFBB Classic Physique competitor. Von Moger detailed his home workouts and continued to build muscle mass and prepared for contest prep in late 2019. He has dealt with different injuries and legal troubles over the course of his career.

The entire journey of his recovery and return to competitive bodybuilding was chronicled in the documentary feature film Calum Von Moger: Unbroken.

Calum Von Moger: “I Was On This Path Of Destruction”

Calum Von Moger sat down for an interview with Zack Telander. The video was shared on YouTube on Wednesday. Here, Von Moger began to discuss how he came to America and had to adjust to a new lifestyle.

“I came from Australia and I came over to the USA with just a suitcase and a couple thousand bucks. I didn’t know anyone and went straight to L.A. I was very strict and focused at the start, you know, with just the training and focus of that. After a few years, that place contest you. I think one of the main things I struggled with is I didn’t have the mentorship of the older people or I didn’t have someone.”

As he continued to grow in the fitness industry, Von Moger was being viewed as a star and at this point, he hit a crossroads.

“I think what happened for me is that I realized my life, it was like getting so much momentum. It was like a jet taking off and I was getting so much speed. Then, it got to this high altitude and it was like alright, you’re either going to come down and crash and you’re gonna end up in jail or killing yourself. I was on this path of destruction. And I got to this point where I almost found out too late.”

Calum Von Moger Opens Up About Rehab Process

Calum Von Moger decided that it was time to get the help he needed. This process included taking a break from social media and focusing on his own mental health.

“They couldn’t connect to me because I was gone. I was taken off and in another spectrum. So, it took like a big kind of fall for me to realize I need help. This is when I disappeared off the internet for awhile because I went out to work on myself. I went to rehab and took time off all social media and finding out who I was again.”

Von Moger continues to work on himself and is focused on both his mental and physical health. Moving forward, the bodybuilder wants to be a spokesperson for others who are battling the same issues and help them get to where he is now.
