Calum Von Moger believes he could have gone toe-to-toe with six-time Classic Physique Olympia champion Chris Bumstead
Calum Von Moger is not backing down from one of the boldest hypothetical matchups in bodybuilding history. The Australian bodybuilder believes that if his career had not been derailed by serious injuries and personal struggles, he would have been standing alongside Chris Bumstead on the Mr. Olympia stage.
And Von Moger did not stop there. He believes he would have beaten the man widely considered the greatest Classic Physique competitor of all time.
In a recent interview shared on Instagram, Von Moger reflected on what could have been a historic rivalry between two of the sport’s most recognizable physiques.
“Me and Chris Bumstead are like, we would have been the rivals. We would have been standing there side by side on the Olympia stage had I not had any of these injuries or setbacks.”
Von Moger suggested that the showdown could have been something special for bodybuilding fans before he made a bold prediction:
“I would have thrashed him, you know what I mean?”
Calum Von Moger Believes Injuries Cost Him an Olympia Rivalry With Chris Bumstead
Before Chris Bumstead established his dynasty in Classic Physique, Calum Von Moger was one of bodybuilding’s fastest-rising stars.
With his classic proportions, impressive arms, and resemblance to a young Arnold Schwarzenegger, Von Moger built an enormous following. His physique and charismatic personality earned him the nickname “Arnold 2.0.”

He also won three Mr. Universe titles and appeared as a young Schwarzenegger in the 2018 film Bigger.
However, his bodybuilding career took a devastating turn following multiple serious injuries, including a torn biceps and a severe quadriceps injury. These setbacks interrupted his competitive momentum and required lengthy recovery periods.
Von Moger also experienced well-publicized personal struggles that further complicated his hopes of returning to the sport’s biggest stages.
Meanwhile, Bumstead was building a legacy that would ultimately redefine Classic Physique.
Chris Bumstead Became the Undisputed King of Classic Physique
Chris Bumstead captured six consecutive Classic Physique Olympia titles from 2019 through 2024, establishing himself as the division’s most successful champion.
His combination of size, symmetry, conditioning, and stage presence made him the standard against which other Classic Physique competitors were measured.
Bumstead retired from Classic Physique competition following his sixth Olympia victory in 2024, leaving behind a remarkable championship legacy.
That makes Von Moger’s prediction particularly interesting.
While the Australian possessed the aesthetics and popularity to become a major attraction, Bumstead repeatedly proved himself against the world’s best competitors under the brightest lights.
Von Moger never reached the Olympia stage, making any claim that he would have defeated Bumstead impossible to prove.
Still, the prospect of the two athletes competing in their primes remains an intriguing what-if scenario for bodybuilding fans.
Von Moger Says Winning the Olympia Was His Ultimate Dream
Despite his confidence about defeating Bumstead, Von Moger acknowledged that his original ambitions were relatively simple. He wanted the opportunity to compete at the Olympia, capture the sport’s biggest prize, and walk away on top.
“I always just wanted to get on the Olympia stage, get one trophy, get it, get the win, and then just boost it.”
He admitted that achieving that dream would have represented the pinnacle of his bodybuilding career.
“That would have been the best experience of my life, but I won’t have that. That’s okay. I’ve got a lot of different life experiences.”
The comments reveal both the confidence and regret surrounding Von Moger’s competitive career.
There is no question that his physique, charisma, and early success gave him tremendous potential. Whether that potential would have translated into victories over a six-time Olympia champion is another matter entirely.
One thing is certain: Von Moger believes the bodybuilding world missed out on a rivalry for the ages.
