“Do I believe I’m coming back to win the Mr. Olympia? Yes. Do I know that I’m bringing a much better physique this year? Oh you better believe it, yes. Do I have confidence in that? Yeah but at the same time, whatever happens, I’m staying in my lane and running my race.”

Lunsford has been working with Hany Rambod for years now. Together, the two have accomplished great things and plan to take things to the next level.

Generation Iron was in Dallas with Derek, Hany, and Hadi Choopan for an exclusive look at their workouts one month out of the 2024 Olympia.

Derek Lunsford Hopes to Bring Improvements To 2024 Olympia

Lunsford’s journey to the apex of bodybuilding is both remarkable and inspiring. He first captured the Olympia 212 title, then transitioned to the Men’s Open category, clinching the title on his second attempt. Significantly, he became the first athlete to secure titles in two different divisions, marking a historic moment in the competition’s legacy.

“You better believe I’ve been working all year, crossing every T, dotting every I. Not just in the gym training, not just on the diet, but on social media, on the traveling, on the business, on the gym, on the family, on the friends. Everything that we’ve been doing all year it to come back significantly improved.”

Lunsford referenced his time in 212, including his rise to the top in that division. This was the second time Lunsford took major steps from year-to-year, ending in a title.

“If you look at my track record since I got with Hany Rambod, we won the 212 Olympia in 2021 and that was like ‘wow, what improvements he made that year.’ Went from 212 to Open the following year, placed second, shocked the world crazy.”

Derek Lunsford has spoken out in the past wanting to improve the next generation of bodybuilding. He has given advice to the up-and-comers in the sport and has done his part to be respectful and set an example.

“I know there’s somebody else out there watching this that’s going to be the next Mr. Olympia. Hopefully not for a handful ore years but I hope that the next Mr. Olympia is watching this, hearing this from me, and learning to develop their perseverance, character, and equipping themselves to be ready for that leadership role.”
