Phil Heath shared his wisdom with Derek Lunsford as shorter bodybuilders.

Derek Lunsford is less than a month removed from winning the 2023 Olympia title but it is never too late to take some tips from the all-time greats. Lunsford recently joined his coach Hany Rambod and seven-time Olympia champ Phil Heath for a workout and posing session.

Lunsford has competed in two shows as an Open Bodybuilder in his short time in the division. These shows have been the last two Mr. Olympia events and Lunsford has two finishes in the top two. Of course, he won just a few weeks ago and became the first competitor to win an Olympia title in two separate divisions, being the open and 212.

Lunsford is preparing to welcome his first child with his wife and will slow down prep but he will continue to train locally and shared that he feels great.

“I feel great. I’m ready to get started on this 2024 program.

The baby is shutting it down for me. So, we’re going to have our first child here in the next month and a half so with the holidays plus the Babi, it’s going to kind of slow things down but I’m going to do local stuff in Florida.”

Recently, Lunsford was joined by Heath for a posing session and discussed how to neutralize taller competitors.

Derek Lunsford recently opened up about his battle with depression.

Phil Heath is one of the all-time great bodybuilders and his overall knowledge of the sport continues to be shared with others. He had great motivation in the gym and this led to many wins on the biggest stage.

“Every version of the Ferrari has to be a better version than the last one because what happens? People catch up. People will also expose you.”

Derek Lunsford has been working to perfect his craft in Men’s Open and quickly reached the pinnacle of bodybuilder. He is also always looking to improve and Phil Heath shared some tips beginning with the back double biceps pose.

“You’re leaning way too far back, even at the Olympia. We get it. Everyone leans so far back now but you gotta keep it straighter.

When you’re able to breathe, all of that will come out. I’m giving you way too much right now but like seriously, it’ll neutralize other table guys. Because they have no choice but to stand straight up because they’re tall. If they lean far back, it actually makes them worse.”

The 2024 Olympia will take place in Las Vegas on Oct. 10-13. Derek Lunsford will have a full year to prep and enter the show looking to successfully defend his title.
