Longtime coach Abdullah Alotaibi talks what made him part ways with Brandon Curry.

In June, it was announced that Brandon Curry and his longtime coach Abdullah Alotaibi parted ways and would not work together moving forward. During a recent episode of The Menace Podcast, Alotaibi opened up about this decision.

“I like Brandon like a brother and they have a beautiful family, beautiful wife. I went with Brandon all that and I went with him to the Arnold and I went with him to the Olympia. This time, I feel in my heart, we will never win.”

Curry was crowned champion during the 2019 Olympia under the guidance of Alotaibi. The two worked together for eight years including when Curry joined Oxygen Gym in Kuwait back in 2021.

Abdullah Alotaibi Discusses Decision To Part Ways With Brandon Curry

The duo became close over the years and enjoyed great success on the bodybuilding stage. Ultimately, Alotaibi admitted that the split was his decision.

“Last week, Brandon sent me a message and he tried to call me. I told him ‘I’m sorry Brandon.’ I can’t prepare you this time because my heart and my mind say no. I don’t have magic. If I had magic, I’d go with him.”

After his victory in 2019, Curry finished as the runner-up on the biggest stage to Big Ramy in both the 2020 and 2021 Olympiacompetitions. He returned to the stage during the 2022 Arnold Classic and was crowned champion before his prep began. Curry finished fourth at the 2022 Olympia.

Last year, it was announced initially that Curry would be unable to compete at the Olympia due to an illness. It later came out that the former champ was able to get himself back into competition shape physically and hit the stage. After the competition in 2023, Alotaibi advised Brandon Curry to get back on stage quickly.

“We never prepare him to lose because this is my brother, you know. Honestly, I know if Brandon is bad. This is honest, I am an honest guy.

After, since Olympia, I didn’t have any phone calls with Brandon. I told him go do Dubai show because you need to rebind and go like Olympia training camp.”

Brandon Curry is still in search of a new coach ahead of the 2024 Olympia. He has not announced participation in any upcoming shows but fans will look forward to his return to the stage.
