Bodybuilder King Kamali believes Brandon Curry is being slept on because he is quieter on social media and other areas.
Brandon Curry is a former Mr. Olympia champ with his eyes on another title. If he comes in at his very best, could Curry take home the 2023 title? King Kamali believes that Curry is better than reigning champion Hadi Choopan.
Curry was crowned champion of the 2019 Olympia. Since then, he has kept it close to the vest during the season. Curry is not overly active on social media showing off his progress but works as hard as anyone in the gym and it shows year after year on the biggest stage.
After his victory in 2019, Curry finished as the runner-up on the biggest stage to Big Ramy in both the 2020 and 2021 Olympia competitions. He returned to the stage during the 2022 Arnold Classic and was crowned champion before his prep began. Curry finished fourth at the 2022 Olympia and will return in November looking to improve upon his standing.
Kamali spoke on the upcoming competition with RXMuscle during a recent interview and highlighted the strengths of Curry heading into the show.
King Kamali: “I Really, Really Think He’s The Sleeper”
Brandon Curry shared a posing video back in September but he has been relatively quiet on social media, keeping everyone guessing as to where he’s been, what he’s up to, and how he looks. King Kamali believes that this is a reason why he is viewed as a bit of a sleeper heading into the 2023 Olympia.
“It’s just because he’s been quiet. That’s it. He’s just been quiet and people start to forget. Unless you’re making noise and you’re putting up all these things on the internet and you’re active on social media, and he’s just been quiet. He’s the sleeper. I’ve been saying this.”

The posing video that was shared back in September showed Curry’s progress and made many viewers remember what he can do on stage. Kamali viewed it as a sign that Brandon Curry could potentially defeat reigning champion Hadi Choopan.
“If Brandon is 100%, he’s better than Hadi. He was beating Hadi in a lot of those poses. I was looking at it. I was like wait and second. Let me compare these poses. He had better shape. He had bigger arms. He had a bigger back. It’s what Dave said. When he gets ultra-conditioned, his legs start to shrink and especially from back shots. It just doesn’t look right but I think he’s the sleeper. I really, really think he’s the sleeper so we’ll see.”
The Men’s Open division remains deep and talented heading into November. The competition will be heavy at the top as multiple competitors can fight for the victor. If he comes in at top shape, Brandon Curry could be one of those competitors.
