Larry Wheels believes that he can be competitive with Olympia champion Chris Bumstead

In the recent Bradley Martyn’s Raw Talk podcast, Larry Wheel spoke candidly about his move to Classic Physique, particularly after making a massive shift away from steroids. The powerlifter-turned-bodybuilder claims to only now be using TRT in order to maintain a healthier lifestyle.

In a sport often dominated by steroids and PEDs, in addition to Larry Wheels having little recent experience in Classic Physique, the question is raised – how competitive can he be on the pro stage?

Larry Wheels touches upon this during the discussion:

“…CBum really took the division to new heights. The division is more popular than ever and I don’t have to be on even more than TRT to be as big as him right now meaning I can actually be competitive according to my coach… From what I can see on just TRT and the absolute bare minimum so without a major compromise to my health like Open bodybuilding being a mass monster or pursuing what records in powerlifting where I can shrink down to 230 which is the cut off for my height on stage, look phenomenal and have content ready.”

Despite this confidence, Larry Wheels is also realistic. It seems his goals are more to see how far he can improve himself within the realm of bodybuilding – rather than become the next Classic Physique superstar.

“I’m not saying I’m going to be next Mr. Olympia but at the very least I want to get my Pro card, win overalls, and see a transformation within myself. I want to see what it looks like a couple years of bodybuilding.”

It is often said by pro bodybuilders that the most important thing is to beat yourself year after year. Of course, it’s important to win over the competition in order to become a champion. But you can’t control others. Only improving yourself.

Larry Wheels seems to understand that this is just the beginning of his Classic Physique journey. He shows confidence in his ability to remain competitive with the best in the division, but also is realistic about understand potential limitations as he moves forward.

Only time will tell what Larry Wheels’ future in Classic Physique will hold. But we are certainly excited to see his debut on stage. And we’ll be following his journey right here on the Generation Iron Fitness Network – so stay tuned for more bodybuilding news and updates!
