Calum Von Moger took the time to speak on the state of his health and thanked fans for their support.

On New Year’s Day, Calum Von Moger shared a post on social media dating his mental health and planning a return in 2023. Now, he has made a longer video speaking on his mental health and to the fans that had stood by him.

On May 6, it was reported that Calum Von Moger jumped through a second story window while under the influence of methamphetamine. He received many injuries, including lacerations from the glass and spinal damage from the fall. He was hospitalized, received spinal surgery, and was in a coma for many days.

On Saturday night, Von Moger uploaded a video to his YouTube account giving some more insight on what he went through over the last year.

“I think, something that I regret the most, was realizing that I wasn’t doing that well. I was going through a lot and I was always, had this like, mindset where I could handle it. You probably didn’t even know but I was going through depression. Two of the biggest obstacles this year was depression and anxiety.

These are two things that I always had a grip on and never wanted to let it affect me or show other people that I wasn’t doing okay. I bottled up so many of my emotions and these problems and stuff. That was my biggest regret, probably not speaking up about it earlier or seeking help earlier.”

Calum Von Moger Speaks On Mental Health

Calum Von Moger has returned to California and plans to get back into a fitness and diet routine. Before he was able to build his physique back up, the bodybuilder had to face many of the challenges he was going through.

“I had all of these internal things that I didn’t want to display or show nay weakness. I, unfortunately, tried to numb myself and suppress it by drinking or going out and partying and stuff. I didn’t even see that I was drifting down this wrong path and spiraling. It got to a point where I lost control of it all. I picked up some bad habits and it resulted in me accidentally hurting myself.”

During his time in the hospital, Von Moger was able to see his family and that was a big part of his recovery.

“My family really was supportive. They came in and it was my mom who suggested, you know, ‘would you consider king through a rehabilitation or going to a recovery center to get the help you needed?’

I went through that the middle of this year. That was really good. I highly recommend anyone who is struggling with any kind of mental health problems or has any problems with drugs or alcohol. If you’re in a bad way and you feel like there’s no way out, go seek help.”

Von Moger: “I’m Extremely Grateful”

Calum Von Moger also took time in the video to speak to his fans who reached out and sent messages during his recovery. Von Moger vows to return this year in a big way.

“I’m extremely grateful and appreciative to all of you that have followed my journey. Some of you have been behind me since day one, for several years. I want to express my gratitude to each of you that have reached out in times where I wasn’t doing so well and struggling.

I apologize for my absence. A lot of people reached out and said ‘you probably won’t see this message or get back to me’ or whatever. I want to leave this message with you. I logged in and saw a few of your messages and it really does warm my heart so thank you so much.”

The process for Calum von Moger has been long as he earned his Pro Card at the 2020 NPC Universe but has not competed in a show recently. He is a three-time Mr. Universe winner but has not stepped on stage as an IFBB Classic Physique competitor. Von Moger detailed his home workouts and continued to build muscle mass and prepared for contest prep in late 2019. He has dealt with different injuries and legal troubles over the course of his career.

The entire journey of his recovery and return to competitive bodybuilding was chronicled in the documentary feature film Calum Von Moger: Unbroken.

“I want to apologize for the last year where I really wasn’t myself, when I was going through a lot. Look, mental health is a real thing and I want to let those out there who are struggling or you’ve lost someone you love. You’re not alone. You can always reach out and take to someone. That’s what I needed to do.”
