Brandon Curry reportedly got the clearance he needs to compete this weekend.

UPDATE (Thursday, Nov. 2, 6:30pm): After initially being announced as out of the 2023 Mr. Olympia with an illness, sources say that 2019 Mr. Olympia champiion, Brandon Curry will compete this weekend after getting clearance from doctors.

It was originally announced that Brandon Curry would miss the 2023 Olympia as he deals with an illness. Bob Cicherillo shared the news of his withdrawal at the beginning of the Live Olympia Press Conference on Thursday afternoon.

Curry was taken to the hospital for treatment for his illness. Further details have not been released but will be shared once released. Sources say that Curry will compete this weekend if given approval from his doctors.

“He was unsure if he was going to be able to compete. It does not look like that’s going to work out for him this year but of course, we wish Brandon a speedy recovery. Also, he will be here this weekend in attendance so be sure to visit him as you get yourself around the expo,” Cicherillo said on thursday.

If Curry is forced to miss the event, he would be the second competitor to drop out over the last two days, joining Nick Walker who will miss the show with a torn hamstring.

Brandon Curry Questionable For 2023 Olympia

Curry was crowned champion of the 2019 Olympia. Since then, he has kept it close to the vest during the season. Curry is not overly active on social media showing off his progress but works as hard as anyone in the gym and it shows year after year on the biggest stage.

After his victory in 2019, Curry finished as the runner-up on the biggest stage to Big Ramy in both the 2020 and 2021 Olympia competitions. He returned to the stage during the 2022 Arnold Classic and was crowned champion before his prep began. Curry finished fourth at the 2022 Olympia and planned to return this weekend to improve upon his standing.

Brandon Curry began to show off updates leading up to the 2023 Olympia. In late September, he shared a posing video to give fans a look at his physique that he built over the course of the year. He also teamed up with Terrence Ruffin in October for a shoulder workout in the final stages of prep.

Many believe that Curry could make some noise in this year’s competition if he can in at 100%. If he is able to take the stage, it is unknown what condition he will be in following this development. More details to come on this topic as they are shared.

Exclusive Video Of Brandon Curry’s Transformative Training In Kuwait

Brandon Curry is one of many bodybuilders known to head out to Kuwait for his Mr. Olympia training – providing the narrow focus needed to improve and transform his physique. In fact, Curry turned his entire career around, and eventually won the Mr. Olympia, due to his training in Kuwait.

Generation Iron had the pleasure of interviewing Brandon Curry during the making of Generation Iron 3. In this deleted scene interview, Curry details his transition to training in Kuwait and the impact it had on both his physique and his lifestyle. You can watch it below:
