2023 Mr. Olympia Prejudging Report & Analysis

Final Callout

Here is a full breakdown from the Mr. Olympia Bodybuilding prejudging from Friday night.

The Men’s Open Bodybuilding division is the biggest in the sport and there was some extra hype around it this year at the 2023 Mr. Olympia. The 2023 version has a chance to be one of the best of all-time and it kicked off on Friday evening, November 3rd, in Orlando, FL. After winners were announced in six divisions, Men’s Open took the stage for prejudging.

Reigning champion Hadi Choopan led the way in the first callout, along with Samson Dauda and Derek Lunsford. A group of six also included Brandon Curry, Hunter Labrada, and Andrew Jacked.

Judges made sure to move competitors around, leaving Choopan in the middle but giving competitors a chance to stand next to him for comparisons. Midway through, Dauda was moved to Choopan’s left while Lunsford remained on his right.

This would be the trio in the fifth and final callout. Judges gave each competitor a chance to stand in the middle as they were put through an intense round of posing. Entering the weekend, there were many that thought this could be the top three.

Chris Bumstead on pace for his fifth title. Here is the breakdown of prejudging from 2023 Olympia Classic Physique.

The 2023 Classic Physique Olympia prejudging kicked off the action on Saturday morning in Orlando, FL on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023. There was a total of six champions crowned on Friday night and there will be five more on Saturday. In Classic, Chris Bumstead took the stage looking to defend his title and win number five.

A loaded group in Classic Physique Division showed off during the first callout. As expected, Bumstead was put in the center with Ramon Rocha Queiroz on his left. This was the major matchup to watch coming in with Ramon Dino finishing as the runner-up last year and winning the 2023 Arnold Classic title.

Urs Kalecinski and former Classic champ Breon Ansley were also featured in the first callout. Kalecinski was the runner-up to Queiroz in March and a top three finisher last season on the biggest stage. Ansley impressed with extra muscle he was able to add to his physique due to the news weight restrictions. Terrence Ruffin and Michael Daboul completed the six in the first callout.

Bumstead and Queiroz were brought back out for the seventh and final callout to get a better look at the two next to each other.

The Classic Physique division featured a total of 35 competitors this year but there remains to be a clear top tier in competition. How will it all play out on Saturday night during the finals? Judges got their first look during prejudging and this is how it played out on Saturday morning.

Keone Pearson wins the Men’s 212 division at the 2023 Olympia!

The Men’s 212 division was one of the headlines from the Friday night finals during the 2023 Olympia in Orldando, Florida. Competitors took the stage Friday morning for prejudging and appeared one more time during the finals. In the end, it was Keone Pearson who took home the 212 title, in a decision that many bodybuilding fans have deemed controversial, saying Shaun was “robbed”.

Shaun Clarida entered as the reigning champion but was tested immediately during prejudging. Keone Pearson impressed early on and made it clear that he would be a threat to the title. Pearson now joins the ranks of the Men’s 212 Olympia champions. Angel Calderon Frias also impressed and finished in third place.

In the end, judges felt that Pearson did enough to take down Clarida. Kerrith Bajjo finished four while Ahmad Ashkanani rounded out the top five.

The Men’s 212 results have been announced. There will continue to be coverage of each event throughout the weekend. Below, you can find full results of 212, along with previous winners and an official score card.

Exclusive Interview with the 2023 Men’s 212 Olympia Champion Keone Pearson

2023 Men’s 212 Olympia Champion Keone Pearson Responds To Natural Claims Controversy

When the Men’s 212 Olympia Champion Keone Pearson came onto the scene he was dubbed all natural. People didn’t believe it.

The 2023 Men’s 212 champion, Keone Pearson exploded onto the bodybuilding scene and has been a rising star in the Men’s 212 Division. But what was even more incredible were the all natural claims that started circulating shortly after he started gaining traction in early 2019. Many people thought it was unbelievable due to his size and shocking physique. It got to the point that PJ Braun took Keone Pearson to get a blood test to prove he was in fact all natural. This seemed to do little to dissuade the non believers. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Keone Pearson addresses the controversy with a year of hindsight behind him. Is it worth it for a bodybuilder to be known publicly as all natural?

Keone Pearson’s story is only one of many. There are a handful of bodybuilders with amazing physiques who have been publicly known as all natural at some point in time. Each and every one of them are met with disbelief. The biggest example of this is Mike O’Hearn who has claimed he is all natural for decades. There’s a perception among bodybuilding fans and spectators that certain levels of physiques are simply impossible to achieve without performance enhancing drugs. Physiques like Mike O’Hearn and Keone Pearson’s fall under that category.

Keone doesn’t claim to be natural anymore. He simply stays quiet and works hard to be the best bodybuilder he can be. The truth is that Keone never wanted to make a big spectacle about starting out all natural at all. Blackston Labs CEO, and Muscle Mogul PJ Braun was simply so shocked at the quality of Keone’s physique that he had to get undeniable proof that Keone was actually natural. The blood test results went viral – and the biggest irony was that it didn’t lead to more people believing it. Instead they buckled down in disbelief.

Which led us to the ultimate question we asked Keone Pearson – is it worth it to be publicly known as all natural in bodybuilding? It seems like the default reaction from fans is disbelief – and then the athlete has to fight uphill against that moving forward. Keone agrees and says that he doesn’t care about natural or not natural. He just cares about being a good athlete on his terms. He wants his physique to speak for him. It might seem impressive to be known for your amazing physique without the aid of PEDs – but ultimately the negative attention just isn’t worth it.

You can watch Keone Pearson address his thoughts on the entire natural controversy in our latest GI Exclusive interview segment above!

2023 Men’s 212 Olympia Champion Keone Pearson Full Interview | Lockdown Prep, Genetic Phenom Claims, & More!

Watch the full uncut GI Exclusive interview with the 2023 Men’s 212 Champion, Keone Pearson.

Keone Pearson’s first competition was in 2017. Years later and he’s been dubbed a genetic phenom and future of the Men’s 212 Olympia division. During his early years, Keone also had the distinction of being trained briefly by Flex Wheeler. He became an “it” competitor and all eyes were on every move he made.

Generation Iron was able to connect with Keone Pearson to talk about his rising star status among other topics about his training, nutrition, and future plans in the Men’s 212 division. With his recent win – we decided to now release the full uncut interview.

Over the past year we’ve released multiple GI Exclusive segments from our interview with George Peterson. This uncut full length interview including topics such as his early status as a genetic phenom, the pressures that come with it, and how he trained during the uncertainty of the lockdown in 2020 and other topics.

On The Pressures Of Being Dubbed A Genetic Phenom

Keone Pearson details what it was like to suddenly be a name in headlines across the web. It certainly made him nervous. It also threatened to distract his focus away from the most important thing – training his physique to perfection so he can live up to the hype.

Ultimately, he received some good advice from his coach at the time. He was told to simply avoid social media and the web. Don’t look at the comments or the posts. Just do what you need to do quick for your sponsors…  then put your head down and get back to training.

This helped Keone block out the stress and anxiety and focus on competing. With each passing year and each competition under his belt, Keone becomes more experienced. Perhaps soon he will become no longer a promising young phenom and instead a proven champion.

So far his fondest moment has been winning the New York Pro. It’s his proudest accomplishment to stand tall on Steve Weinberger’s very own stage. Now poised to compete in the Men’s 212 division – perhaps he will make a new greater memory in the form of a major win. Only time will tell – but Keone hopes to prove himself worthy of the prodigy title bestowed upon him.

Keone Pearson Details His 2020 Lockdown Training

In an interesting window into the past of the pandemic, we spoke with Keone Pearson about the lockdowns that spread across the country mid-2020. At the time, we were only a few weeks into the lockdwon. It’s an interesting look into how Pearson was planning to keep his body in pro shape despite gyms closing.

Keone Pearson discusses how, initially, the lockdowns provided a good break for recovery. He makes mention of the legendary Flex Wheeler and how he would typically take 2-3 weeks off after a big show. This kind of mental and physical recovery is what Keone was looking for. By being forced upon him – it allowed him to bring himself to a reset.

Of course, the lockdowns and pandemic have lasted much longer than a few weeks. Luckily, gym openings did eventually return. And it seems like his reset break helped. He won the Chicago Pro 2021. Keone Pearson has long been seen as a future champion in the sport. This win further builds that hype. We can’t wait to see what he has in store after a more traditional year when this pandemic is behind us.

Wrap Up

Keone Pearson is a powerhouse bodybuilder who is also open to going in-depth on some of the most vital topics in bodybuilding. That’s why you should check out the full GI Exclusive interview above! He shares his personal experience and tips for training, nutrition, and more.

Sarah Villegas back on top of Women’s Physique at the 2023 Olympia!

The Women’s Physique division wrapped up on Friday night at the 2023 Olympia. Reigning champion Natalia Abraham Coelho returned to defend her title and found herself in another battle within the division. Two-time champion Sarah Villegas showed a desire to regain her title and that is exactly what she was able to do.

2023 Olympia Wellness Prejudging Report & Analysis

Highlights from the 2023 Olympia Wellness prejudging.

The Wellness division is making its third appearance on the biggest stage during the 2023 Olympia and has proven that it is here to stay. The prejudging round took place on Friday morning and the division got to take the stage for the first time before the finals at night.

Since Wellness became an annual event at the Olympia, there has been a leader at the top. Francielle Mattos has won back-to-back titles and is looking to complete the three-peat. Four of the top five finishers from last season returned to competition this year and were featured in the first callout.

Mattos and Isabelle Nunes, who finished as the runner-up last year, spent a majority of the time centerstage. Rayane Fogal and Kassandra Gillis also made a statement to return to the top of the scorecard. The first callout featured eight bodybuilders that were put through posing sessions and judges began to dwindle down from there.

The size of the division allowed it to go seven callouts but in the end, it was the presumed top two of Mattos and Nunes. Judges brought much of the first callout back out together during the sixth but the final consisted of just two.
