Rondel Hunte has impressed with a new PR deadlift in training.
@deadlift_lord868 Instagram

Rondel Hunte continues to improve his strength and is working to reach new heights with 380kg deadlifts.

Powerlifter Rondel Hunte is preparing to reach new marks in competition and it shows during his training sessions in the gym. Hunte, the heavyweight lifter has shown off some impressive work and this includes hitting a new deadlift PR of 380kg (838lbs) for three reps.

Hunte stepped up to the bar and performed the sets raw with nothing but lifting straps. He used a conventional stance and rested between each rep. Hunte takes a step back from the platform before locking out the next set that consists of one rep. Also seen in the video, Hunte performs a bench press of 250kg (551lbs) for a smooth and slow tempo.

“380 / 837 x 3 Deadlift 10kg PR 📈
250 / 551 x 1 Closer Grip Tempo

Didn’t expect to be in PR territory right now but I’m not complaining. 😂 Strength is on the climb.”

Hunte, a powerlifter from Trinidad and Tobago, saw the International Powerlifting Federation suspend his national federation early in his career but recently announced his return. The timeline will not allow him to compete in 2024, meaning he will have a full year to build even more strength heading into 2025. This is when he could have his eyes on IPF world record lifts.

Rondel Hunte Competition Bests

Rondel Hunte competed at the 2023 USAPL Raw Nationals back in September and was able to set new personal bests on stage.

During this competition, Hunte came within range of many IPF world records. This includes coming within one kilogram of Dennis Cornelius’ 120kg-class world record squat. Aside from squat, Hunte was able to beat the best deadlift and bench press. Cornelius currently holds the bench press world record as well, which Hunte cruised past by 22kg.

Rondel Hunte has shown that he prioritizes all three lifts and has a special love for deadlifts. At the USAPL Raw Nationals, his 397.5kg deadlift was two kilograms more than the world record help by Inderraj Singh Dhillon.

Rondel Hunte continues to work toward his return to the IPF, which will likely come in 2025. There are many records that could be in danger once he returns to competition.

Ross Dickerson Biography

Ross Dickerson
Image courtesy of Instagram (Ross Dickerson)

Ross Dickerson was born in London, however he moved with his mom and brother to the United States when he was only five years old. Although, he did not stay too terribly long and he eventually ended up landing back in London, Cornwall to be exact, back in January 2008 at the age of 19. Much has changed since 2008 and since Ross was 19, but he has stayed consistent in the gym which has kept him going through good and bad times. Ross has said that he could not imagine his life without fitness.

Though he is a very knowledgeable figure in the fitness industry now, Ross Dickerson was not always a guru and actually spent his first few years in the gym figuring things out and learning off others around him who provided him with inspiration and motivation. Alongside the training, he knew diet would make a massive difference and it has always been a big focus for him, and is a big reason he looks the way he does. Looking at him now you wouldn’t believe it, but Ross was a skinny young guy and to this day is still a hard gainer, so he probably has to eat a bit more than most people do to really continue with his progression.

Ross Dickerson Height

Ross Dickerson is 6’1″, which is pretty tall for someone and is honestly a height that many people will have trouble putting on muscle mass at. Most of the time, you see shorter guys packing on crazy amounts of muscle, and the taller guys having a bit of a harder time doing so, which Ross has experienced. However, he did not let his height and hard gainer status stop him, and is well over 200 lbs with very low body fat percentage.

Training of Ross Dickerson

Ross Dickerson’s workout routine consists of working opposite muscle groups together. For example, he works the chest (a pushing movement) with the biceps (a pulling movement). Then he trains legs on their own, shoulders on their own, and groups together back and triceps. It is also worth noting that Ross uses relatively higher volume for his workouts, but that does not mean he is going light. Ross truly pushes himself in the gym, forcing muscle growth.

Nutrition

Ross Dickerson is a hard gainer and noticed that counting calories or macros was never going to work for him. This is very unconventional, as most of the time you will see guys weighing out foods and counting every single macro. That being said, he developed his own approach to diet and still utilizes the same regime, with variations that he has found work equally well over time. For example, he eats as little processed foods as possible, and instead consumes fresh whole foods throughout multiple meals and snacks each day.

Ross Dickerson’s diet follows a typical daily meal plan that encompasses a variety of nutrient-dense foods. Some highlights of his diet include:

  • Breakfast: A protein-packed meal to start each day consisting of eggs, whole-grain toast, and fresh fruits.
  • Snack: Greek yogurt topped with mixed nuts and berries for added protein and healthy fats.
  • Lunch: Grilled chicken breast, quinoa or brown rice, and a colorful salad, rich in vegetables and fiber.
  • Afternoon Snack: A protein shake made with protein powder, almond milk, and a handful of spinach for added nutrients.
  • Dinner: Grilled salmon, roasted sweet potatoes, and steamed vegetables for a well-rounded meal.
  • Evening Snack: Cottage cheese or Greek yogurt with a drizzle of honey and some mixed nuts for added protein and healthy fats.

Ross Dickerson’s typical daily meal plan focuses on providing the body with the necessary nutrients to support muscle growth, maintain energy levels, and promote overall health. By incorporating protein-rich foods, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats, rather than processed foods and artificial ingredients, he ensures his body receives optimal nutrition, aiding in the attainment of his fitness goals.

How Are the Aesthetics of Bodybuilding Physiques Judged?

modified v sit and knee tucks

A strong V-taper, good muscle proportion in the right areas, and low body fat are all part of aesthetics.

Judges assess various factors to determine bodybuilding scores. These include muscularity, body proportion, mass, and definition. Depending on the category, judges closely evaluate specific body parts such as the chest, arms, legs, abs, shoulders, and back. A couple of bodybuilders who have mastered the art of aesthetics include Steeve Reeves and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

When numerous athletes vie for a spot and possess all the qualities above, additional criteria come into play. Aesthetics, being one of them, tends to be highly subjective. However, the most visually pleasing physiques often exhibit a remarkable V-taper and an impressive outer sweep. To cultivate a noteworthy physique, it’s imperative to focus on aesthetics. Therefore, we will provide valuable tips to facilitate your journey.

Bodybuilding Aesthetics Analyzed

An aesthetically pleasing physique is well-balanced and pleasing. It’s muscular but symmetrical, focusing on the art of bodybuilding. Below are some of the features that people who have aesthetically pleasing bodies have in common:

How to Build Aesthetics

While genes might play a role, the bulk of getting an aesthetically pleasing physique revolves around resistance training and eating a good diet. Below are some essential tips.

Visualization

A picture of what you want your body to look like aesthetically helps. So you can find one or two bodybuilders with the exact look you desire. Later in this article, you’ll find a list of aesthetically pleasing bodybuilders.

Personalized Workouts

You can use some of their workouts when you find an athlete you like. However, it’s essential to see what works for your own body. Some routines could be effective for one athlete but not as effective for another.

Focus on Mind Muscle Connection

Focus plays a vital role in building your body and physique. So, when you workout, use your mind-muscle connection to focus on each muscle you build. Research shows that this is effective when doing resistance training (1)

Eat Right

You must eat clean to keep your body fat percentage low. Low body fat also allows your muscles to show, improving your aesthetics.

A high-protein diet with many vegetables is a great way to build lean muscle mass. Eating a moderate amount of healthy fats is also essential so your anabolic hormones like testosterone are firing correctly to help with the muscle-building and fat-loss processes.

Supplements

When paired with a healthy diet and resistance training, supplements can help you build muscle faster. Many bodybuilders use protein supplements to get the most out of their training (2). Other ones that can be beneficial include creatine, glutamine, BCAAs, and casein.

How Long Does It Take to Build an Aesthetic Body

The time it will take to build an aesthetic body will highly depend on your shape when you start. If, for example, you have a good bit of muscle mass, you’ll likely still need several months to improve your aesthetics by focusing on the right body parts and losing body fat. In addition, it’ll determine how well and consistently you follow a structured workout program and diet. Moreover, your genetics play a role as well. In general, beginners should look at about a year of consistency.

If you’re starting from scratch, you’ll need to work on putting on lean muscle mass and losing body fat simultaneously. Below are some general training rules to keep in mind.

  • Use a split routine for exercises, as this helps you focus more on each muscle.
  • Do an average of 3 sets of 8-12 reps for each routine. Research supports this rep and set scheme to maximize muscle building (3).
  • Remember to include exercises that help you build your V-taper, such as dumbbell lateral raises and lat pulldowns

Aesthetic Bodybuilders Through Time

Many bodybuilders prioritize size, so there have been many famous big bodybuilders. Besides mass, though, bodybuilders also focus heavily on aesthetics. Below are athletes with aesthetically pleasing physiques.

Steve Reeves

Zac Aynsley

Zac Aynsley, featured in the Generation film Bigorexia, has a great V-taper as a Men’s Physique competitor, which places a huge emphasis on the upper body due to having to wear board shorts on stage that hide the legs.

Conclusion

The concept of aesthetics in bodybuilding is often subjective, but specific characteristics define individuals with aesthetically pleasing physiques. The prevailing agreement encompasses a V-taper, low body fat, and well-defined lean muscle mass.

Developing your physique as a bodybuilder requires focusing on a strong V-taper, proper nutrition, and supplementation. Notable bodybuilders renowned for their aesthetically pleasing physique include Arnold Schwarzenegger during his prime and the current Olympia Classic Physique champion, Chris Bumstead.

Who Should Buy Nutricost Whey Protein Isolate

  • Bodybuilders
  • Strength athletes
  • Those looking for a good protein supplement on a budget

Who Shouldn’t Buy Nutricost Whey Protein Isolate

Whey Isolate vs other Types of Whey Protein Explained

Whey Isolate

Isolate protein contains about 90 per cent of protein per scoop and a negligible amount of fat and lactose.

Whey Concentrate

On the other hand, protein concentrates contain 25 to 89 percent protein, but this is largely dependent on the brand you buy.

Whey Hydrolysate

Whey hydrolysate is not as popular of a form of protein as isolate and concentrate, as it is a pre-digested protein containing mostly dipeptides and tripeptides. These are absorbed more rapidly than free-form amino acids and much more rapidly than intact (non-hydrolysed) proteins.

FAQS

What is the difference between whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate?

Whey protein concentrate tends to be a bit more budget friendly and nutrient dense. On the other hand, whey isolate tends to be lower in lactose and absorbs faster, making it a great option for a quick post workout recovery snack. That being said, it is dependent on your goals and diet.

Is Nutricost Whey Protein Isolate any worse than other brands because it is cheap?

No! The price tag does not mean a drop in value with this product. Nutricost Whey Protein Isolate is great when it comes to macros, mixability, ingredients, and price!

Does Nutricost Whey Protein Isolate Taste Good and Mix Well?

Yes! Just because this protein is classified as a cheap whey protein powder does not make it worse. Nutricost tastes like what it is advertised as, and mixes very well, leaving no clumps.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Nutricost Whey Protein Isolate stands out as a top-tier product in the market. With its commitment to quality, diverse flavor options, and effective results, it caters to the needs of a wide range of consumers. Whether you’re an athlete, fitness enthusiast, or someone looking to boost their protein intake, Nutricost is a reliable and satisfying choice. Is This Substance The Ultimate “Steroids For The Brain?” | The Mike O’Hearn Show

Mike O’Hearn discusses liver and kidney health, NAD, and Glutathione in a very in-depth episode of the podcast

In a recent episode of The Mike O’Hearn Show, host Mike O’Hearn delved into the fascinating world of health and wellness with special guest John Tsikouris, the owner of HRT clinic Titan Medical. The discussion revolved around cutting-edge topics such as Glutathione and Trimune, shedding light on their potential benefits for brain health, anti-aging, and overall well-being. Mike O’Hearn also discusses Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and why he considers it “steroids for the brain.”

A post shared by Mike O’Hearn (@mikeohearn)

Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and Its Impact on Brain Health

The conversation kicked off with an exploration of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), a coenzyme crucial to metabolism found in all living cells. John Tsikouris explained that NAD plays a pivotal role in nourishing the brain’s cells, resulting in improved mental clarity, cognitive function, and cellular repair. As individuals age, the natural production of NAD decreases significantly, leading to a decline in DNA protection and cellular function.

John shared his personal experience with NAD supplements, emphasizing the importance of finding the right dosage. He noted that at 40 years old, the body gives up 40% of its natural NAD production, and by 60 years old, this figure increases to a staggering 80%. By incorporating NAD infusions or injections into one’s routine, individuals can potentially slow down the aging process and mitigate the effects of chronic conditions associated with aging.

Mike O’Hearn, referring to NAD as “steroids for the brain,” highlighted its use by professionals like Phil Heath before significant events to enhance cognitive clarity. Moreover, NAD is currently being explored as a treatment for conditions like Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Glutathione: The Liver’s Natural Ally

The conversation then transitioned to the topic of Glutathione, a substance produced by the liver from amino acids. John explained that Glutathione is involved in tissue building, repair, and immune system function. Factors such as aging, drug use, and alcohol consumption can reduce its production, leading to potential health issues, including a fatty liver.

Activities such as drugs and alcohol can contribute to a “fatty liver,” and Glutathione can play a crucial role in restoring the liver to its normal state. John emphasized the importance of collaborating Glutathione intake with lifestyle changes, including improvements in diet and reduced alcohol and drug use.

The Trimune Supplement: A Powerful Immune Booster

The discussion then turned to the Trimune supplement, which combines the above mentioned Glutathione in addition to injectable vitamin C and zinc. This potent combination offers a range of benefits, from preventing illnesses to speeding up recovery from colds. As winter approaches in certain regions, Trimune emerges as a valuable preventative measure to keep individuals healthy and resilient against common illnesses.

Liver and Kidney Health: Vital Organs for Athletes and Beyond

Mike and John delved into the critical importance of maintaining liver and kidney health, particularly for athletes and individuals engaged in strenuous physical activities. They highlighted the potential impact of alcohol, certain drugs, and a poor diet on these organs.

The conversation underscored the regenerative capacity of the liver and kidneys, with John offering a practical tip for individuals concerned about kidney issues. He recommended refraining from gym workouts for 24 hours before a doctor’s appointment to ensure accurate readings, as training can temporarily skew kidney levels.

Supplements and Peptides: Bridging the Nutrient Gap

John Tsikouris concluded the discussion by emphasizing the challenges individuals face in obtaining essential nutrients solely from modern diets, which are often compromised by processed foods and factory farming. Regardless of age or health level, John recommended considering supplements and peptides to optimize overall health.

Unfortunately, simply living as a human being in the modern world leads to natural deficits in nutrition. Unless you want to spend majority of your waking life dedicated to natural nutritional sources and health – modern medicine has allowed for legal and safe supplements that can aid in optimizing your nutrition and health.

While many believe that supplements and visiting a doctor are only required when something is wrong, both Mike O’Hearn and John Tsikouris urge that people of any age always practice preventative health. Visit a doctor, ask questions about supplements that can optimize your health. It’s never too late… or too early.

Wrap Up

The Mike O’Hearn Shows episode with John Tsikouris provided a deep dive into the world of NAD, Glutathione, and the Trimune supplement, offering valuable insights into enhancing brain health, combating aging, and fortifying the immune system. As the pursuit of optimal health continues, the conversation highlighted the importance of embracing innovative approaches to supplement traditional lifestyle choices.

3 Tips On How To Eat Carbs For The Best Gains

how to eat carbs

Get Your Carb Game up to Snuff.

Carbohydrates. It seems like these days that every nutrition guru and influencer in the industry are imploring people to avoid eating carbohydrates if they want to get the best gains and not put on any body fat. While it is a notion that may hold some water, cutting out carbs entirely is really only for those looking to get off a ton of body fat, meaning it is good practice for bodybuilding prep or getting shredded for the summer.

However, for hard-gainers, meaning those who don’t put on weight as easily, restricting carbohydrate intake is a surefire way to see minimal gains. Carbs aren’t necessarily the enemy, but they can be if you’re doing things the wrong way. If you want to bulk up and get some considerable, quality muscle mass, then you’re going to want to consume carbs.

We are going to be covering what carbohydrates are, how to maximize their usage, and some different carbs you can consume. So, let’s dive in.

What Are Carbohydrates?

Carbohydrates, what exactly are they? Well, for starters they are a macronutrient. Other macronutrients include proteins and fats. But going a bit deeper than just a “macronutrient,” carbs are fuel, they are energy. They are made up of fibers, starches, and sugars. These are essential food nutrients that turn into glucose, which gives your body energy the energy to function, meaning they should be a part of your diet. Carbohydrates are divided up into two categories, simple and complex.

Complex Carbs

Complex carbohydrates are carbs that can be found in whole, unprocessed foods, including fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains.

complex carbohydrates

Simple Carbs

Simple carbohydrates are sugars and starches that have been refined and stripped of their natural fiber and nutrients.

Which Type of Carb is Better?

When it comes to simple vs. complex carbohydrates, you should be aiming to consume more complex carbohydrates. Why is that? Well, to put it simply, there are far more nutrients in complex carbs. They are high in fiber and digest much slower, plus they keep you full for longer, which helps with weight control. Eating too much of simple, sugary carbs can cause weight gain, and not in the way you want!

How to Maximize The Carbs You Eat

So, how do you maximize carbs for the best gains? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Here are some simple tips to keep in mind when consuming carbs during a bulk.

1. Eat Carbs Around Training Time

The best way to consume your carbohydrates is around the time that you’ll be doing your training. By timing your carb consumption this way, you can ensure that you’ll have the energy to train hard while you’re at the gym. There is nothing worse than getting to the gym and having no energy. Going to the gym on an empty stomach can also lead to you feeling slightly weaker and underperforming, which results in less gains.

carbs for training

However, you should not only eat carbohydrates before your training but directly after as well. Since your blood sugar levels drop after a hard training session, eating carbs directly after your workout will spike your insulin levels and put you into an anabolic state for muscle growth. This is opposed to a catabolic state that will consume your muscle fibers.

So, timing your carb intake is key for gains. Think of them as fuel for your workout, as well as a refuel post workout. Aim to cycle your most carb-heavy meals around training.

2. Stick To Complex Carbs

Rather than eating a ton of breads and sugary carbs, the complex alternative should be your ideal source of carbohydrates. Oatmeal and brown rice are two examples of slow burning complex carbs that will give you sufficient energy throughout your training. This is why you see a lot of bodybuilders sticking to rice and oats as their main carb sources, it is a great food for energy.

Are oats a good carb source?

While fruits are healthy, over consumption of sugary fruits could end up keeping and producing fat around the midsection, so limit the intake. Not to mention, stay away from those sweet treats like cookies, cakes, and sodas to name a few. However, we are not saying to not enjoy yourself every now and then. Dieting can be hard, and if you can fit in a treat sometimes, there is no reason not to!

3. Consume Carbs With Protein

Another great tip to follow is consuming carbohydrates and proteins at the same time. Eating brown rice with vegetables and a protein like chicken is an ideal meal for a bodybuilder. This will promote both higher energy levels as well as muscle growth and maintenance.

chicken and rice diet

A nice rule of thumb to stick by is to avoid fats that combine fat and carbs as this will actually help to put more weight on you seeing as these types of foods are more calorie dense. Beans are also a great option as they combine slow burning carbohydrates, fiber, and protein all in one.

When Should I Restrict Myself From Eating Carbs?

You always want to keep your carbohydrate intake under control, that is a given. Too much of anything is bad for you, and eating too many carbs can pack on a lot of fat. So, when should you actually restrict your intake of carbs?

Typically if you are trying to cut weight you will cut your carb intake. For example, during a bodybuilding contest prep you will typically see bodybuilders cutting carbohydrates week by week. This is because as carbohydrates drop, fat loss increases for them. During “peak week”, you will see bodybuilders drop their carbs to an all time low to “flatten out” and shed any extra fat and water.

Now that being said, do not just drop your carbohydrates drastically. That can have detrimental effects on your body’s physical state, which includes your gains too.

The Best Supplement to Control Carbs

Inno Supps Carb Cut Complete is ideal if you want to reap the benefits of a low-carb diet without forgoing carbs. Reducing carb intake positively affects fat loss, but sticking to a low-carb diet can be rigorous.

If you are having trouble controlling your carbohydrate intake, check out Carb Cut Complete, from Inno Supps. This is part of the Carb Cut Shred Stack and it helps to reduce the absorption of carbs in your body, hence the name. While some carbs are good for you, as they are necessary source for energy, too many carbs can cause some problems when you want get a grip on how much body fat you have.

When you digest too many carbs, your body will not utilize all of them, and in turn your body will take these carbs and turn them into body fat. Not only that, but too many carbs can cause fatigue, making you drowsy.

How to Eat Carbs Wrap Up

Carbohydrates are said to be the enemy of the people by many diet “gurus” and influencers. However, carbs are definitely something that can be beneficial if used properly.

Breaking them down, carbohydrates are not so simple (well some are, pun intended). Carbs can be divided up into simple and complex, and different carbs have a different affect. Meal timings, types of carbs consumed, and what you eat them with all have an impact on what they do for you.

Overall, do not avoid carbs, especially if you are trying to put on weight. They are quite literally fuel for your body and overall help with putting on size. Bodybuilders like Jay Cutler loved utilizing carbohydrates for their bulks, and look at how that turned out.
